Overnight sidewalk pressure washing, no-parking zones, possible water discoloration

Overnight sidewalk pressure washing hits South Street, Speedwell Ave, Morris Street, Washington Street and Martin Luther King Avenue with no-parking zones and possible water discoloration.

Work is scheduled 8:00 PM–6:00 AM and may temporarily affect water pressure/clarity, so residents and businesses should plan around overnight water use and posted parking restrictions.

The schedule is as follows:

March 29 & 30 (Sunday–Monday)
South Street and adjacent side streets
April 6 & 7 (Monday–Tuesday)
Speedwell Avenue
April 26 & 27 (Sunday–Monday)
Morris Street
May 4 & 5 (Monday–Tuesday)
Washington Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

Alternate dates, if required, are scheduled for May 12 (Tuesday) and May 17 (Sunday).

If an area is not fully completed after the second night of cleaning, crews will return to finish that section before starting the next scheduled area. This helps ensure each location is completed before work begins in the next area.

What to Expect:

While similar to routine hydrant flushing, pressure washing may temporarily affect water conditions in surrounding areas:

  • Temporary drop in water pressure is possible.
  • Discolored water may occur due to sediment (iron and manganese) being stirred in the system. This is normal and poses no health hazard.

Tips:

  • Avoid using tap water, washing machines, or dishwashers during overnight hours when flushing may occur.
  • If water appears discolored, run cold water for several minutes until it clears.
  • Check water clarity before doing laundry. If staining occurs, do not dry clothes—rewash immediately using rust remover.
  • Slight discoloration may linger for a few hours but does not affect water quality.
  • If pressure or volume remains low, check faucet aerators for trapped sediment.
