BEDMINSTER, N.J. North American Aerospace Defense Command F-16 fighters intercepted two general aviation aircraft that entered temporarily restricted airspace over Bedminster on Aug. 9.
NORAD said both aircraft were safely escorted out of the restricted area. Its official incident release did not identify the pilots, aircraft models or reasons they entered the airspace. It also did not describe either aircraft as a security threat.
Temporary flight restrictions can limit or prohibit general aviation near protected locations and special events. Pilots are responsible for checking current FAA notices before departure.
NORAD advises any pilot intercepted by military aircraft to monitor emergency frequency 121.5 or 243.0, reverse course and follow instructions. Current restrictions and notices are available through the Federal Aviation Administration’s TFR portal and NORAD’s general aviation guidance.
