CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – Chatham Township warned residents on May 20 about a recent rise in online scammers impersonating government agencies to solicit false payments or compromise personal information.
The township said residents should remain cautious with online communications involving bills, payments or personal information. Officials reminded residents that the township will never demand immediate payment or request payment by prepaid card, wire transfer or cryptocurrency.
Residents who receive a suspicious bill or official-looking message are encouraged to contact Town Hall directly or verify information through the township website before making a payment or sharing personal information.
