SUMMARY:Friends of Jockey Hollow Present Rick Atkinson
DESCRIPTION:Author event with Rick Atkinson on the War for America\, Morristown and Jockey Hollow\, 1777-1780.\nFriends of Jockey Hollow presents author and military historian Rick Atkinson on Thursday\, June 25\, 2026\, at 7 p.m. at Mayo Performing Arts Center\, 100 South Street\, in Morristown. \nThe event is titled “The War for America\, Morristown & Jockey Hollow\, 1777-1780.” MPAC describes it as a family-friendly evening with Atkinson\, a bestselling and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian\, presented by Friends of Jockey Hollow. \nTickets are listed by MPAC as free. The ticketing page says the event is general admission with a strict limit of four tickets per order\, so attendees should reserve tickets in advance through MPAC rather than assuming walk-up space will be available. \nThe local history connection is direct. Morristown National Historical Park commemorates the sites of George Washington and the Continental Army’s winter encampment from December 1779 to June 1780\, including Jockey Hollow. Friends of Jockey Hollow describes itself as an official philanthropic partner to the park\, with a mission to protect\, preserve and promote the area’s environmental\, recreational and historic significance. \nAtkinson’s recent Revolutionary War work includes The Fate of the Day\, the second volume of his Revolution trilogy\, which covers the middle years of the war. For Morristown-area readers\, the event connects a national America 250 history conversation to the local places where Washington’s army endured the 1779-1780 winter encampment.
