Morristown Minute has moved from MorristownMinute.town.news to MorristownMinute.org! This will be easier to manage, and help keep our newsroom going!
We Moved. Here’s Where to Find Us.
If you’re reading this, you probably found us. Good.
Morristown Minute has a new home. My name is Chris Connors Jr. I’m the editor in chief and the only full-time staff here. I built Morristown Minute because I believe local news is the foundation of an informed community, and I’ve been running it with the help of my neighbors who care about this town as much as I do.
After years on the town.news platform, we’ve built our own website from scratch at MorristownMinute.org. Same people. Same mission. Same local coverage of the news, events, and community updates that matter to Morristown and Morris County. The only thing that changed is where you find it.
So why move?
Town.news (part of Patch) was good to us for a long time. It gave us a place to publish, build an audience, and grow. But the platform had limits we couldn’t get around. We couldn’t run our own advertising, which meant we had no control over how we sustain ourselves financially. We couldn’t manage our own mailing list, which meant your email address and subscription belonged to the platform, not to us. And the design options were fixed, which meant we couldn’t build the site we wanted to build for you.
None of that is a criticism. Town.news does what it does well. But when you’re running a local news operation and you can’t control how you make money, how you reach your readers, or how your site looks and works, you’re renting someone else’s house. We wanted to own ours.
MorristownMinute.org runs on WordPress, hosted on the same platform we use for TheMinuteman.org. Everything from the event calendar to the community submission forms to the subscriber list is ours to manage. When a local business wants to advertise with us, we can make that happen directly. When you sign up for our mailing list, that relationship stays between us.
The old site at morristownminute.town.news will stay up for a while. We’re not taking it down. But it won’t be updated. New articles, new events, new community posts will all live at MorristownMinute.org. If you have the old site bookmarked, now is the time to update that bookmark.
If you were subscribed to the old site, that subscription might not carry over automatically. To be sure you get our updates sign up again at the new site. There’s a signup form in the sidebar on every page, or you can go directly to MorristownMinute.org to subscribe. It takes about two seconds.
Everything else is the same. We’re still covering Morristown town council meetings, school news, traffic, development, local events, state policy that hits close to home, and the community stories that don’t make it into the bigger outlets. John, Eric, and all of our contributors made the move with us. Community members can still submit events, press releases, and alerts. You can still feature your event on our calendar for $2 a day.
We built this site because we believe local news matters and because we believe the people reading it should come first, not the platform hosting it. Morristown Minute exists because of this community, and now we have a home that reflects that.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for sharing our work. Thank you for showing up.
We’ll see you at MorristownMinute.org.
