Boonton Begins Temporary Curb-Extension Test on Main Street

Temporary Curb-Extension at Division Street and William Street are intended to test pedestrian-safety and traffic-operation changes under a Transportation Alternatives Program grant.

BOONTON, NJ – Boonton began placing temporary barriers at Division Street and Main Street and William Street and Main Street on Thursday, May 14, 2026, as part of a demonstration project tied to a Transportation Alternatives Program grant.

The barriers are intended to create temporary curb extensions so officials can evaluate pedestrian safety and traffic operations before any more permanent changes are considered. The borough said the pilot is meant to help assess how the intersections function with the added pedestrian-safety treatments.
