The New Jersey Department of Education awarded nearly $7.5 million to 55 districts and charter schools, including $40,000 for Mine Hill Township.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – Mine Hill Township is among 55 New Jersey school districts and charter schools receiving state funding to expand high-impact tutoring during the 2026-2027 school year, according to the New Jersey Department of Education.
The department announced nearly $7.5 million in preliminary awards on June 10, 2026, through the third round of the New Jersey Learning Acceleration Program: High-Impact Tutoring Grant. Mine Hill Township is listed for a $40,000 award.
The state says the grant program is designed to accelerate student learning in English language arts and mathematics by targeting districts where proficiency rates in grades 3 through 8 remain below 50 percent.
Preliminary awards range from $20,000 to $400,000, based on district enrollment and student performance data. The total award amount listed by the Department of Education is $7,477,005.
The state says funded tutoring programs are expected to include frequent tutoring sessions at least three times per week, small-group instruction with qualified tutors, alignment with classroom instruction and standards, and ongoing use of data to monitor student progress.
Districts may use the funding for tutoring during the school day, before- and after-school programs, and summer learning opportunities. The state also says tutors may use artificial intelligence for limited program support, including scheduling or diagnostic tools to identify student learning gaps, while educators retain oversight.
Schools receiving funding will track student participation and progress using local assessments and statewide data systems. The Department of Education said it will provide technical assistance, program guidance and monitoring during the grant period.
