The measures include new flooring certification requirements for schools, community centers and child care centers, plus a ban on unauthorized third-party restaurant reservation arrangements.
MORRISTOWN, NJ – Governor Mikie Sherrill signed three bills May 7, 2026, including measures dealing with public health protections, consumer protections and community investment, according to the Governor’s Office. The package includes a mercury-free flooring requirement for schools and child-centered facilities and a ban on unauthorized third-party restaurant reservation arrangements.
The flooring bill, SCS for S1370/A1514, requires new flooring for schools, community centers and child care centers to be certified mercury-free. The issue matters because some synthetic flooring materials have raised concerns over mercury vapor exposure in places used by children and families.
The restaurant bill, A3318/SCS for S1193 and 1197, bans unauthorized restaurant reservation arrangements by third-party reservation services. A legislative summary says the bill prohibits a third-party restaurant reservation service from advertising, listing, promoting or selling reservations for a food service establishment without a written agreement with that establishment.
The third bill, S1107/A2408, amends the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations act to reassign an appropriation for City of Camden capital projects to Parkside Business & Community in Partnership.
