Hacklebarney Trout Unlimited and Mendham Borough will restore 1,800 feet of stream habitat to improve water quality and trout sustainability.
MENDHAM BOROUGH, NJ – Hacklebarney Trout Unlimited has received a 2026 Water and Environment Grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation for the India Brook Restoration Project in Mendham Borough, according to a borough announcement posted May 14, 2026.
The project is a partnership between the borough and Hacklebarney Trout Unlimited. The work is expected to improve about 1,800 feet of stream and nearby riparian buffer inside India Brook Park.
Planned work includes invasive species removal, stream habitat improvements and the planting of native trees, shrubs and grasses. The borough said the project is intended to improve water quality, reduce erosion, strengthen flood resilience and support a sustainable cold-water trout fishery.
The grant is part of the foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which supports clean water, environmental education, climate resilience and water-based recreation projects. The borough announcement did not list the dollar amount of the grant.
