Eligible seniors and disabled homeowners in New Jersey are receiving a second round of Stay NJ benefit checks as the state opens applications for the 2025 tax year. The average second payment is $645.58, and the next filing deadline for eligible seniors and disabled residents is November 2, 2026.
MORRISTOWN, NJ – New Jersey has begun mailing the second round of Stay NJ benefit checks to eligible seniors who qualified for the 2024 tax year, according to the state Department of the Treasury. The second payments average $645.58, following first-round payments in February that averaged about $600.
The state said Stay NJ benefits are being issued as quarterly installments rather than one lump-sum payment. Payments are sent by paper check and calculated through a formula tied to a homeowner’s property tax bill and eligibility for other property tax relief programs, including ANCHOR and the Senior Freeze.
Treasury said the next filing season, for tax year 2025, is already underway. Eligible seniors and disabled residents can apply through the state’s combined PAS-1 application, with a filing deadline of Monday, November 2, 2026.
Residents can get assistance through the state’s regional information centers, by phone appointment, through the online chat system at the state property tax relief website or by calling the property tax relief hotline at 1-888-238-1233.
For Morris County homeowners, the main practical step is to watch for paper checks in the mail and confirm whether a new application is needed for the 2025 tax year.
