The National Weather Service said heavy rain and thunderstorms could produce flash flooding Monday afternoon through early Tuesday.
MORRISTOWN, NJ – A Flood Watch is in effect for Morristown and Morris County from 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, as showers and thunderstorms could bring rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, according to the National Weather Service Mount Holly office.
The watch includes Morris County and several other New Jersey counties, along with portions of Delaware and Pennsylvania. The National Weather Service said flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible, with flooding most likely in poor-drainage and urban areas.
The Morristown forecast calls for showers and possible thunderstorms Monday afternoon and Monday night. Some storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall, with a 100% chance of precipitation Monday night and additional rainfall amounts between a half inch and three-quarters of an inch possible.
The Weather Service advised residents to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to act if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
