The county-funded project will close the road to through traffic beginning around Aug. 6 while preserving access to Morris Catholic High School and nearby businesses.
DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Avenue in Denville is scheduled to close to through traffic for approximately two months beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, while Morris County replaces the driving surface of the bridge over Beaver Brook.
Construction will generally take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, weather permitting, according to a county announcement posted July 27.
A signed detour of approximately three miles will direct motorists to Ford Road and Kitchell Road. Trucks are advised to use Interstate 80 as an alternate route.
Access to Morris Catholic High School and businesses along Morris Avenue will remain available throughout construction.
The single-span concrete bridge was built in 1958 and remains structurally sound, county officials said. The concrete deck, however, has deteriorated and developed recurring potholes despite repeated repairs.
The county determined that replacing the deck was the most practical way to extend the bridge’s useful life. The project will not replace the entire bridge.
The $352,725 project is being funded by Morris County. CMS Construction of Plainfield was awarded the contract, according to project details reported by WRNJ.
An exact reopening date has not been announced. The two-month estimate would place completion around early October if weather and construction conditions do not delay the work.
